It was no secret to me that I was obese. I don’t know exactly when I figured it out, but I did and knew I had to change something. I could have chosen to join a gym or something like that, but I decided to try something much bigger. There was a reality show about people losing weight and I was going to be on it. Before I could be declared the winner, I would have to be a contestant.
I went onto the internet, and took a look at a site called biggest loser forum, which I found out had all types of information about diet and weight loss, exercise programs, helpful hints and they even had chat rooms where people can discuss the issues surrounding their weight loss program with people who are going through similar situations. I found out the way to get on the show was very similar to many other reality shows and was able to begin the whole process while online. The process included filling out the application and creating a video The tape did not have to be really long, but it had to display my personality to the judges in such a way that they would have to pick me. I had to condense my whole life story into just a few minutes that would be fun to watch. The application and video would be all that the show would know about me, so I knew the importance of doing it right.
I filled out my application, made my video and waited, knowing that if I was lucky enough to be chosen to be on the show I would be taught how to lose weight fast, something that I knew would help me to live a long and healthy life that I could share with my family, and something that I felt was much needed. Unfortunately, I was not chosen to be on the show. I guess I didn’t fit the needs of the show. But even if I wasn’t chosen for the show, I still had the problem of being overweight. I decided that even though the Biggest Loser wasn’t go to help me, I would help myself.
I made the commitment to start to eat healthy and begin exercising, which at first meant doing sets of six pack ab exercises in my living room every night until I was able to get the money together to join a fitness club and get the professional help that I needed to reach the goals that I had set for myself, and to lead me in my new healthy lifestyle. There were plenty of weight loss systems available to me, but I did not use them. Amazingly the weight started to come off. I kept track of the reality show that I had hoped to be on while I worked at home, thinking about how I would have fared on it. I was losing the weight the right way. I had the support of fitness professionals and of my family. I stated to enjoy the new way I was doing things. Going to the gym was fun and I was meeting a bunch of new people. Despite the apprehensions I had about giving up all the things that I thought gave me comfort, I replaced them with many other new things. I started to enjoy waking up every day.
I wasn’t chosen to be on the Biggest Loser, but that did not stop me. In the end I regained my life without being on the show. The original decision to lose weight can be traced back to my decision to apply. Without making the effort to get on the show, they would never have had the chance to reject me. I took the rejection and used it as my motivation to get healthy. I was able to tell them to look at me now. I know that I am now the Biggest Loser because I am healthy.
